History in brief
History
The founder of the organization was Mr. Sigvard Wallenberg from Sweden. His son Bo Wallenberg is now the President of the funding organization Scandinavian Children´s Mission (Sweden)
Mr. S. Wallenberg was born in 1929. At an early age he entered into the entertainment business and was for many years an acclaimed artist in the Scandinavian countries. In the late 70-ties – early 80-ties he became a professing Christian and started to tour also in churches and other Christian circles.
When visiting the Philippines in 1984 he was greatly touched by seeing the sufferings and hardships of the people, especially the children, which resulted in a burning desire to do something to help. In this way the Scandinavian Children`s Mission Phil. Inc. was founded as a funding organization with the purpose of raising the needed funds. Likewise he established Leto Christian Center Inc. as a mission organization which directly is involved in providing holistic ministry to the poor and needy.
SCM first opened an orphanage 1985 in San Juan, Metro Manila, to temporarily house abandoned and neglected children. Other programs and services were also opened in addition to the orphanage such as: feeding, day care and medical/dental services, house building programs, schools and relief operations etc.
During the years the work expanded to also include the Visayas and Mindanao with a local workforce of well over 100 persons. In 1999 it was though decided that the Mission should concentrate its activities to the NCR and Region 4.
At present Leto Christian Center Inc. is working in three major programs:
Outreach Programs, Educational Programs and Residential Care (Center for Malnourished Children)).
